Scent training for pet dogs offers a variety of benefits, both for the dog's mental stimulation and overall well-being. Here are some key advantages:
Overall, scent training offers a well-rounded form of enrichment that taps into a dog's natural abilities while providing mental, physical, and emotional benefits.
Suitable for all dogs regardless of age.
No experience necessary!

I remember as a child getting our first dog. A small black ball of fluff found in a cardboard box in winter by Police Officers in Brierley Hill and taken to the station, where my mother worked for the CPS at the time.
A few days passed and ‘Panda’ as she was aptly named, came home to us and my journey with dogs commenced. Her love of water and tales of her sitting on our laps during long road trips to Scotland are still told with much affection. That was back in the 1980’s so don’t be too alarmed by the lack of safety standards that have now become common place.
Fast forward and my own first dog was another black labrador rehome, Harvey. (Can you see a theme developing yet?) A brilliant dog, who probably by luck more than knowledge I trained to blind retrieve, emergency stop and stay on the centre spot of my local football pitch whilst I walked around the whole touch line before releasing him. I only know this terminology now, I had no clue back then, it was just fun to do with him. He also became a Pets As Therapy Dog for a short time.
After Harvey, came a long period of fostering police dog puppies, both German Shepherds and Springer Spaniels. Again, no plans at that time to begin a dog training business later in life, it was just the right thing for us to do at that moment.
Two other dogs have graced our home in recent years, both puppies, belonging to service dog charities for whom we volunteered our time. In a total change from labs and shepherds suddenly a tiny male Cava poo arrived who loved nothing more than playing with Pinto (my current rescue black Labrador) and jumping on your lap for a snooze. Through this adventure was my first introduction to my good friend, trainer and mentor Lillie Abbot owner of Moo Dog Training.
After him a female puppy German Shepherd, Golden Retriever cross lived with my family until progressing through her training to become a working Guide Dog. Then after a short break of about 10 days, the Wilson family were back at it raising yet another puppy on behalf of Guide Dogs. Giving my time as a volunteer for something I am passionate about is immensely rewarding.
Why now move into training? Looming retirement at the end of 2023 and wanting to do something for myself, Lillie Abbotts encouragement, allowing me to shadow her Puppy and Kennel Club classes before having the confidence to register me as a KC Good Citizens Instructor with Moo Dog Training.
Courses, books, webinars, distance learning followed by more courses, more books and more webinars I’ve finally mustered the confidence to start my own business helping people who want the best for their dogs. Accreditation through The Animal Behaviour Training Council provides reassurance for my dog parents that my skills meet a stringent assessment criteria.
To all the people who have helped me thus far, thank you. I owe you all.
Chris
